The private Visit begins at the Monasterio Descalzas Reales, in English, Royal Convent of the Barefoot Nuns Madrid.
Its Founder was Juana de Austria, daughter of emperor Charles 5th. She almost became the first and only Jesuit nun of her time.
Dona Juana de Austria donated this imposing Renaissance Palace to the Poor Clare Franciscans Cloistered Nuns. This order, for over almost 500 years, continue to live in this Convent and is in charge of its maintenance . The Convent of the Barefoot Nuns Madrid was awarded in 1987 as the Best European Community Museum. Its main attraction is the ten 17th century Flemish tapestries based on the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Great painter Peter Paul Rubens painted the cartoons. However, our private tour goes beyond descriptions. Discover with us the astounding secrets hidden behind the real, imaginary, and fake doors of the Convent.
TO BE NOTED : As a client of Madrid Museum Tours, enjoy an UNIQUE ADVANTAGE: To have an individual private tour in English. A norm of the Royal Convent of Barefoot Nuns dictates that only group tours in Spanish, up to 20 participants, are allowed.
