The Circulo de Bellas Artes is the place to be

Circulo de Bellas Artes

In the heart of Madrid there is a place which locals and visitors in search of food for the spirit and aesthetic fulfillment hold dearly. The CBA or “Circulo” (Círculo de Bellas Artes) as it is widely known is a cultural landmark of Madrid.
It holds art exhibits such as Francis Bacon drawings, as well as theatre performances, workshops, social and academic events and film screenings. The building itself is an architectural delight. Built in 1926, it harbors a rooftop terrace with the best panoramic views of Spain’s capital. If you come to Madrid you can’t leave without at least catching a glimpse of this emblematic monument to the arts and intellectual leisure. It is also a meeting place for local celebrities and influential persons of Madrid’s political and social life.
They can be found at “La Pecera” (fish bowl), the Circulo’s restaurant, bar and cafeteria. You can have lunch there and mingle. It’s not too expensive and it’ll be worth your while. The setting is evocative (painted ceilings, statues and chandeliers) and inspiring. Depending of the time of day, it provides a relaxing atmosphere or an exciting one. It’s all a matter of what you are looking for. The Pecera’s ambiance seems to bring out the best in people. It’s contagious. You can jot down some notes of your onglong literary project, work on your laptop, engage in smooth conversation or carry out wheelings and dealings in the proper mood. Either that or you can just sit there, sip on your coffee and look around enjoying the slice of life in everyday Madrid. Thereafter, you can climb up the stairs located in the main hall and wander into the huge salons which sometimes hold exhibits and events. You’ll be surrounded by a sense of “grandeur”. Take a deep breath and feel the “Circulo”. You won’t regret it.
